Francis Goffin
Director General
RTBF radio
Belgium

Francis Goffin, 57, has been creating and managing radios for 35 years.

He has been the Director General of RTBF radios since 2003, successfully steering the revamping of its five radio stations offer (with an increase of the RTBF radios audience share from 25 to 36%). He began his third RTBF six-year term in this position last April. Prior to working for the French-speaking Belgian public service, he acquired a 23-year-long experience in private radio management – starting with the founding of a small local pirate radio that he launched in 1980 while studying agronomy engineering, to the general management of Bel RTL (one of the biggest private radio stations of the market), which he co-launched in 1991. He also created and managed one of the first private Belgian radio networks, the press group Rossel’s RFM during the 80’s. For five years, he has devoted part of his energy to federate the Belgian French speaking radio industry's main players around an ambitious and collective project to ensure radio’s digital migration and future (hybrid radio DAB+/IP). He is a firm believer in the necessity of this migration, as well as the new opportunities it will bring to all broadcasters. To this, he is Managing Director of maRadio.be, the new French speaking Belgian single online radioplayer, launched last year.

At the international level, he is a member of the WorldDAB’s Steering Board since 2013 and of the EBU’s Radio Committee since 2011. He also participates in the Smart Radio group led by the EBU and is active in the R.F.P. (the association of the French speaking public radios of France, Canada, Switzerland and Belgium) which he is currently Vice-president, after serving two mandates President.

RTBF is the radio leading group in Brussels and Wallonia, with 5 radio stations.
